Job Description
This Production Operator role takes place in a fast-paced silicon wafer manufacturing environment, focused on final inspection and quality control. You will work in a cleanroom setting, following complex, detailed procedures and completing documentation to ensure polished wafers meet strict customer specifications. This is a part-time position working three 12-hour night shifts per week from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with an alternating weekly schedule.
Responsibilities

• Perform final inspection and quality control tasks for silicon wafers in a fast-paced production environment.
• Follow complex, detailed procedures and complete documentation accurately according to specifications and customer requirements.
• Process polished wafers in accordance with specific customer requirements contained in computerized and paper work orders.
• Review work orders, load material onto appropriate tool sets, and select and load correct recipes based on customer specifications.
• Verify lot numbers on work orders match lot numbers on box labels at load and unload of each operation.
• Count wafers in each box and ensure quantities match the work order and box label at load and unload of each operation.
• Perform daily calibrations on each process tool and verify that all calibrations meet process specifications before releasing tools to production.
• Continuously monitor, analyze, and verify that all data and processes meet quality and order specifications during and after each process step.
• Respond to and troubleshoot tool alarms and take appropriate action to resolve issues.
• Operate robotic and automated equipment to load and unload material, move transport carts, and handle wafers, tools, and other equipment.
• Verify that recipes match work orders and that correct lot numbers are scanned into computer systems during tool setup for each box.
• Ensure wafer cassettes are placed correctly on tools in designated stations and positions to avoid robotic malfunctions and potential chemical or mechanical hazards.
• Perform repetitive opening and closing of wafer cassettes at waist level, placing them on carts at every process step.
• Carry out repetitive hand and wrist movements during packaging tasks, including sealing finished products.
• Use fine motor skills to handle wafers and wafer cassettes carefully, ensuring they do not contact cleanroom uniforms, gloves, or mechanical equipment.
• Push, pull, and guide transport carts through doorways and hallways, including carts that may weigh up to approximately 400 pounds.
• Move boxes of wafers between inventory locations, transport carts, and automated process equipment by bending, stooping, squatting, lifting, and reaching as needed.
• Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly while walking, standing, or moving objects.
• Stand and walk for long periods during a 12-hour shift while performing production and inspection tasks.
• Hand pour specified amounts of correct chemicals into manual cleanlines and test lines using chemical test strips prior to running the line.
• Work safely around hazardous and volatile chemicals and in close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
• Perform tasks to clean equipment and work areas to meet cleanroom and 5S standards.
• Use a computer, keyboard, and monitor to input data into Excel, track and confirm each process, and complete computerized forms.
• Use basic office equipment such as calculators, copiers, telephones, and cell phones to support production and documentation activities.
• Visually inspect wafers to differentiate mixed material, identify flipped wafers in cassettes, and detect slight variations in wafer color.
• Verify that laser mark scribes on wafers are consistent and correctly oriented within cassettes.
• Inspect finished boxes to ensure there are no pen marks, particles, scratches, or smudges, that date/time stamps are valid, and that wafers are properly aligned and not cross-indexed.
• Verify precise alignment of wafers after final inspection through opaque and clear lids sealed in plastic bags.
• Confirm packaging specifications using computerized work orders and visual guides, ensuring correct label placement.
• Follow all documented training, procedures, and processes to meet quality and cleanroom standards.
• Report and take action to prevent variations, errors, or lapses in quality, and ensure identified quality issues are corrected and not repeated.
• Identify and report suggestions for process and quality improvements to appropriate leadership.
• Complete all tasks using safe work practices, always prioritizing safety over deadlines or other goals.
• Act as a safety role model for co-workers and maintain high safety awareness in all activities.
• Work effectively in close proximity to other team members in shared areas and independently in designated areas when required.
• Multitask and monitor wafer movement on multiple pieces of automated machinery simultaneously.
• Apply basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and computation of percentages and decimals using a calculator, Excel, or other methods.
• Communicate clearly in English with management and co-workers, and read, write, and explain instructions, procedures, manuals, reports, and correspondence.
• Maintain strong attention to detail, organization, and time management to meet daily production targets on time and without defects.
• Participate in cross-training to become certified to rotate among multiple process areas within the department.

Essential Skills

• Ability to work part-time night shifts of 12 hours, three days per week from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on an alternating weekly schedule.
• Capability to stand and walk for long periods during a 12-hour shift in a production environment.
• Physical ability to bend, stoop, squat, lift, reach, push, pull, and guide transport carts, including exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
• Comfort working around hazardous and volatile chemicals and in close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
• Fine motor skills to handle delicate wafers and wafer cassettes without contamination or damage.
• Strong multitasking skills, including monitoring multiple automated machines and wafer movements simultaneously.
• High attention to detail for visual inspection of wafers, labels, packaging, and alignment, including differentiating slight color variations and verifying laser marks and orientations.
• Ability to perform daily calibrations on process tools and verify compliance with process specifications.
• Basic technical aptitude and comfort using computers, reading computer screens, and entering data accurately.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Excel and Outlook or similar software to track processes and communicate.
• Ability to operate basic office equipment such as calculators, copiers, telephones, and cell phones.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and compute percentages and decimals using calculators, Excel, or other methods.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with management and co-workers.
• Capability to create, read, comprehend, and explain instructions, procedures, technical manuals, informational materials, reports, and correspondence in English.
• Strong time management skills to meet daily production and quality targets in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior production or manufacturing experience is a plus but not required.
• Experience in semiconductor or cleanroom environments is beneficial.
• Experience with inspection and quality assurance processes is advantageous.

Work Environment
The work takes place indoors in a ventilated, climate-controlled cleanroom designed for silicon wafer manufacturing. Operators wear full cleanroom personal protective equipment, including a hooded full-body cleanroom suit (bunny suit) with hairnet and/or beard net, safety glasses, face mask covering mouth and nose, and latex-free or other acceptable gloves. Due to the PPE requirements, operators may become hot or sweaty during the shift despite air conditioning and good ventilation. The role involves working around hazardous and volatile chemicals and in proximity to moving mechanical parts, with strict safety procedures in place. You will work 12-hour night shifts from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., three days per week, on an alternating weekly schedule. The environment emphasizes cleanroom and 5S standards, use of automated and robotic equipment, and adherence to detailed processes and documentation.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $22.50/hr.
