Assists with thedesign, construction and/or fabrication of equipment, modules, andexperiments that will be used in the laboratories or classrooms toassist the instructor in the delivery of desired instructionaloutcomes. Work is performed relatively independently subject tosupervisory review and direction. Incumbents may provide workdirection to work-study, student helpers and casual employees andcoordinate their activities.What You'll Do and Who We AreLooking For Apply by September 13, 2026This is a 0.8 FTE position.The location is Swan Island Training Center at VigorShipyard.Instruction & Instructional Support Provide instructional support to students through the safe useof welding equipment, tools, materials, and laboratoryresources.Set up and support laboratory activities, monitor studentprogress, and assist with instruction and assessments asassigned.Train and orient students and staff on laboratory procedures,equipment operation, safety protocols, and the use of personalprotective equipment PPE).Administrative Duties Maintain laboratory records, inventories, and operationalprocedures.Procure supplies, equipment, and instructional materials; trackexpenditures and coordinate with vendors.Maintenance & Equipment Management Maintain welding laboratories, equipment, and facilities toensure safe, clean, and effective operations.Troubleshoot equipment issues, coordinate repairs, and managethe checkout and tracking of tools and materials.Handle hazardous materials and maintain required safetydocumentation in compliance with applicable regulations andmaintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).Personnel & Leadership Coordinate daily laboratory operations and oversee classified,temporary, and student employees.Schedule, train, and support staff in laboratory preparation,equipment maintenance, and safety.Minimum Qualifications: To be considered, your application mustdemonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculatedbased on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by thenumber of hours per week worked). High school diploma or equivalent and two years ofpost-secondary education in a specific technical disciplineappropriate to the instructional support.Three years of experience in the technical area are required;relevant experience may substitute for the post-secondary educationrequirement on a year-for-year basis.Must have proven written and oral communications skillsadequate to assist students in understanding the work they are toperform.Proven ability to lead others and evaluate performance.The ability to lift 50 lbs in this work environment isrequired.Depending on laboratory assignment, some positions may alsorequire specialized knowledge and program-specificcertifications.Success Criteria: These qualifications, skills and abilities arecritical for success in this position.
