ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (include but are not limited to the following):

Day-to-Day Financial Operations:

  • Review revenue and expenditure accounting entries. 
  • Monitor and manage designated and restricted funds. 
  • Prepare and analyze reconciliations including, but not limited to bank statements, donations and donor restrictions, payroll accounts, balance sheet, clearing, and suspense accounts. 
  • Coordinate month end closing and prepare journal entries. 
  • Manage fixed asset accounting. 
  • Manage pledge receivable accounting. 

Budget Preparation and Monitoring: 

  • Prepare budget to actual reports for management. 
  • Participate in annual budget preparation. 
  • Assist the Vice President of Finance in other budget related tasks. 

Audit and Internal Controls: 

  • Assist with work paper preparation and on site annual financial audit. 
  • Maintain an internal control system to ensure that financial transactions are based upon established policies and procedures. 

Complete other tasks as assigned by the Vice President of Finance. 

SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS:

  • Self-motivated, grasps new concepts quickly, and the desire and willingness to learn.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail and high level of accuracy. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple priorities. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel. 
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as a team member with the Business Office staff. 
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships based on mutual confidence and respect.

QUALIFICATIONS:        

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or related field.
  • Current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred. 
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations and best practices. 
  • Minimum 5-10 years of accounting experience in a similar role. 
  • Advanced proficiency in financial management software, Microsoft Excel, and Google Sheets. 
  • Experience in a school or non-profit organization preferred. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of school/church organization and operational procedures preferred.
